Statement of purpose for construction management: MSc Construction Project management - University of portsmouth

My name is (mention your name), born on (mention date of birth) and belongs to (mention name of the country). I did my schooling from (mention school name). As I was keen to pursue my higher education in technology/engineering field, I studied maths, chemistry and physics as core subjects at my level 12th studies; higher studies in the field of technology/engineering require a basic understanding of mathematical methods and physics principles to critically analyze technological/engineering concepts. Being from a family of civil engineers, it was obvious to me, choosing the field of civil engineering for my bachelor's education. I enrolled in bachelor of engineering (civil engineering) course at (mention college name) and completed the said degree in the year 20XX, securing a XX.XX CGPA. Afterward, in starting of my professional career I joined (mention name of company) as a trainee engineer. and on (mention promotion date), I was promoted to the designation of civil engineer at the same firm. And now its been over 5 years I have been working with the same firm in the field of civil engineering

Construction industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. In coming years, all over the world, the size of the construction industry is projected to grow exponentially.  Particularly, talking about India, numerous construction projects are ongoing in the country and various others have been planned to get started in the coming years in order to improve the country's infrastructure. With growth in construction industry, employment options for construction managers are getting generated at a brisk pace; to plan or handle/manage the construction projects, a larger workforce of construction managers is the demand of the hour. And so, it is quite evident, expecting a better career in the domain of construction management in the country. Analyzing this information, I made the decision of pursuing master of construction project management degree course at the University of Portsmouth

However, various institutions or universities in India are offering master's degree courses in construction project management, but my focus was clear on studying further in abroad; teaching and learning approach at Indian institutions basically theory-oriented; students are hardly offered to develop independent research skills that could let them be a continuous learner and be at fore-end in their professional career journey.

I made the decision of further studying in the UK over USA, Canada or Australia after analyzing these facts: UK offers numerous options for studying an MS in construction project management degree course and that too of comparatively lower duration than institutions in USA, Canada or Australia. Also, at every institution in the UK, offering MS in construction project management degree course, professional accreditation is associated with the degree; confirming that the curriculum offered for the course would be in accordance with modern industrial environments and said degree credential would be recognized by the employers worldwide. Except for a very few institutions in the UK, tuition fee costs for MS in construction project management degree courses are well in the reach of most the international students (£ 16,000 - 19500 annually) whereas at institutions in USA or Australia, way more funding would be required in order to study an MS in construction project management degree course.

For studying an MS in construction project management degree course I choose the University of Portsmouth: it has various accolades on its name i.e. a QS 5 stars rated university, #19th best university for career services (StudentCrowd 2021), TEF Gold ratings for teaching excellence and one of the top 150 universities worldwide and many more in the list. MSc construction project management degree course at the University of Portsmouth is uniquely designed to let the students acquire professional expertise to handle technical, organizational, financial, legal and commercial issues involved in the completion of a construction project. Students will be offered to introduce their knowledge/skills to resolve real-life practical issues via site visits and case studies. Said course is accredited by the world-class professional bodies i.e. Institution of Civil Engineers, The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, Institute of Highway Engineers and The Institution of Structural Engineers etc; assuring that said course would be one of the world-class study options for studying an MS in construction project management degree course and concerned degree would be globally recognized among employers/organizations. Also, Portsmouth is considered one of the cheapest places for international students to live.

Staying for a longer duration in the UK is not in mind after completing my studies at the University of Portsmouth. So, I will return to India instead of applying for post-study work visa. Indian firms including NCC Ltd, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Simplex Infrastructures Ltd, Gammon India Ltd or Tata Project Ltd would be the best suitable options to me for seeking employment in the field of construction management. Salaries offered to construction management professionals (construction administrators or construction managers) generally lies in the range of INR 50,000 to 65,000 on monthly basis.

And in last, I humbly request for admission to MSc Construction Project management degree course at University of Portsmouth.
