Is PTE Valid for Canada Student Visa?

Each and every international student dreaming about studying in Canada knows very well that he/she must require an English language exam score i.e. IELTS etc. in order to secure admission at an institution in Canada and also, it is must for an international student to furnish documentary evidence (an English language exam score) in support of his English language proficiency level while submitting Canada Student Visa/Study Permit application. Nowadays, PTE has evolved as the most preferred substitute for IELTS exam among international students as they find it quite easier to score well in PTE exam. But even after getting a decent score in PTE exam, still, an international student remains doubtful regarding the queries; is PTE accepted in Canada? or is PTE valid for Canada Student Visa? This current article will let you know every minute detail you need to know about how to study in Canada or what are the possibilities of getting Canada Student Visa with PTE exam score.

Count of institutions/universities accepting PTE Academic exam scores as a valid proof of English language proficiency is rapidly increasing i.e. a large count of Canadian institutions have started accepting PTE Academic scores to offer admission. Also, PTE Academic scores are very well recognized/accepted by IRCC to apply for Canada Study Permit under the Non-SDS/Regular study permit stream. And hence, we can conclude that one can study in Canada with a PTE Academic score and can easily get a Canada Study Permit as well.

Usually, a misconception is created in the mind of an individual who got refusal for his/her Canada Study Permit application on applying with PTE Academic score that supplying PTE Academic score as proof of English language proficiency is the reason for refusal. However, it is just a myth that there are more chances of Canada's Study Permit application to get refused if applied with PTE Academic scores.

The fact is, if your applying under SDS category and furnishing PTE Academic score as a proof of English language proficiency, you will certainly get a refusal for your Canada Study Permit Application as under SDS category, with PTE Academic score you are not meeting the eligibility criteria for getting a Canada Study Permit; for applying under SDS category, you are required to submit IELTS Academic score as a proof of your English language proficiency. Always remember to apply under Non-SDS/Regular Canada Study Permit stream, if applying with a PTE Academic score.

(Note: however, by the time, more than 90% of Canadian institutions recognize PTE Academic scores, but it is still advised to explore course-specific, respective institution's admission requirements. It may be possible that a particular institution may recognize and accept PTE Academic score, but for a specific course, that institution/university just recognizes IELTS Academic or TOEFL score for admission)

How Much PTE Score is Required for Canada Student Visa?

Now, another very important query is still pending i.e. how much PTE Academic score is required to get Canada Study Permit under the Non-SDS category. However, no specific minimum requirements for PTE Academic scores are provided by IRCC to get Canada Study Permit under the Non-SDS category. And no one else can set the perfect minimum value of PTE Academic score that could provide assurance regarding approval of Canada Study Permit application under the Non-SDS category. But it is advised that you must at least score an overall score of 50 with no individual component less than 50 in PTE Academic exam if applying to study a diploma course after your school level education (senior secondary or 12th standard). And if applying to study a postgraduate diploma/certificate or bachelor course, you must have an overall score of 58 or above with no individual component less than 50. And in case of a master degree course try to apply with an overall score of 64 or above with no individual component less than 58
